To kick off November I'm sharing my first supplier showcase blog and this one is a real treat. It's over to Felicity from Oh Sew Violet to tell you more.
What service do you offer?
Here at Oh Sew Violet I make beautiful bunting, garlands and dreamcatchers for weddings, events, home decor and gifting. We love to create items that will make you smile and add character to your home, room, garden or special event. We love to see where our bunting ends up and the story it goes on to tell.
Tell us how it started
After having my first child, I got back in to the swing of making things again and this revived my love of sewing and collecting all types of fabric which then spiralled in to strings and strings of colourful bunting and ‘Oh Sew Violet’ was created!
With 10 years experience of Marketing in fashion & home improvement, I've been able to put my creative knowledge in to launching my bespoke business and I couldn't be happier. Working around the family has been so important. My son is 2 & 1/2 years old so in between toddler duties I'm always at the sewing machine!
Do you have a top tip for newly engaged couples?
It may sound silly, but i'd say arrange a little date night in with your other half and chat about everything you'd love your big day to be and what is important to you both. Scribble it all down, it can be the start to really visualising your big day and knowing what you both do and don't want. Soon you'll start to get a feel for the kind of wedding you want and it will all flow from there.
The planning can be so fun so just take your time and enjoy- Pinterest will be your new best friend so just pin until your heart's content!
Who would be your ideal client?
I would love to work with Fearne Cotton- I love her eclectic style and taste and she seems so down to earth. I'm always drawn to bright fun colours and think that strings of my colourful bunting and dreamcatchers would look amazing at one of hers or her daughters themed parties.
Can you share one of your favourite pieces of work to date?
I really love creating dreamcatchers to suit individual tastes and they are all made with individual vintage crochet doilies in the centre, but I would say that my favourite piece of work to date was when I recently made over 200 metres of large flag beautiful bunting for a wedding out in South Africa. The bunting was strung all along the drive up to the venue over looking views of the lagoon and sea as well as all around the ceremony and reception areas. The wedding just sounded stunning and so happy.
How do you like to unwind?
I'm always pottering round the house and wondering what our next home project can be so I really enjoy just flicking through home interior magazines to get some inspiration.
A night to unwind also wouldnt be the same without chocolate in hand along with scrolling through instagram which im obsessed with!
What trends have you noticed in 2016?
Anything seems to go right now for weddings but i've really noticed a strong Boho feel with dreamy outdoor ceremonies, floral headpieces and beautiful eclectic styling.
Whats are your plans or ideas for 2017?
I've always got so many ideas for products but along the way i've learnt to stay niche and focus on key products. I've got plans to focus more on developing some of my designs for dreamcatchers. 2017 is going to be an exciting year!
Thank you so much to Felicity from Oh Sew Violet for sharing your wonderful business with all our readers. You are so so talented and I just love what you do.
