Destination Weddings in Malta

Nadia Wood

Back in May I had the pleasure of joining a group of Wedding Industry experts invited by the Intercontinental Malta and I DO KNOT Wedding Planners to attend a 3 day familiarisation trip to Malta. We viewed a collection of stunning Wedding and private event venues and properties whilst being treated to the local cuisine and hospitality of the Maltese people. It was simply idyllic!

Villa Arrigo, Amulet Events

We started our first afternoon by travelling to Villa Arrigo. This exclusive use venue with enclosed and private gardens is an ideal location for both intimate and large Weddings, with the hire of the lower gardens complete with a water fountain available to hire with an additional supplement. The outdoor space provides a beautiful backdrop for photographs, with pockets of seating and crisp white umbrellas for your guests to enjoy. This venue also has a Bridal suite available for use.

Next we journied to Palazzo Parisio, which is located opposite the gorgeous Church of the Nativity of Mary in Naxxar.

Naxxar Church, Malta

We explored the areas available for Wedding couples to hire starting with a look round the opulent rooms inside the palace including the grand staircase, the gold music room & the magnificent ballroom.

We then took a stroll round the classic Baroque gardens, before being served afternoon tea & a  huge slice of cake in the tea room.

After tea with our tummies full we checked into our luxurious Suites on the top floors of the Intercontinental Malta Hotel with a view to match!

For our first evening we took a stroll down to St Julian's Bay and were treated to a lovely fresh fish dinner at Paranga Seafood Restaurant on the sea front.

Day two took us to Valetta on a vintage bus to view what this incredible city had to offer. Starting at the Mediterranean Conference Centre a former 15th century hospital with ghost stories galore! With large rooms spanning 161m in length, 10m wide & 11m high you can see how much history has taken place in this incredible building. An incredible space for larger Weddings & Events.

With the sun shining gloriously above our heads we walked round the city to view the Lower Baracca Gardens

With an impressive open space and beautifully cared for gardens it was a pleasure to see such a relaxing area in the centre of the city.

Saluting Battery, Malta

We continued to the Saluting Battery, also available for hire before viewing inside the Chapel of Catherina di Italia and the Casino Maltese. We then stopped for lunch and reflected on our morning whilst getting to know one another!

After some free time at the pool catching up on emails we refreshed for the evening and travelled to Villa Rosa, one of my favourites of the trip and a perfect setting for a private Wedding with views of St Julian's Bay.

Our next stop took us to Razzet l-Abjad, a gorgeous private farm estate large enough to fit 450 guests under a canopy of vineyards.

We were then collected in our very own vintage Wedding cars to travel to the romantic town of Mdina for a look around and dinner at Relais & Chateaux property De Mondion.

De Mondion, Mdina

After dinner we watched the sunset from Mdina before travelling back for a well needed sleep back at the hotel!

Our final morning took us to the Limestone Heritage centre, a fascinating space with lovely gardens for private Weddings in Malta. With a 30ft high waterfall as a backdrop for ceremonies, this family run venue can be transformed into a magical Wedding venue.

Our next stop took us to Meridiana Winery, a working Vineyard with a terrace to fit up to 350 guests if required. The terrace works really well for intimate numbers too with more private areas available overlooking the vines.

With a visit of Gardjola Gardens to hear the canons blasting over from the Saluting Battery we then enjoyed our final afternoon relaxing in the old fisherman village of Marsaxlokk complete with a farewell seafood feast!

A huge thank you goes to Mauro & Petra from I DO KNOT along with their team Matthew & Charlene and Louise & co. from Intercontinental Hotel for making our visit to Malta so incredible memorable and magical.

Marsaxlokk Seafood, Malta

With so many stunning Wedding properties and venues across the Island and an abundance of culture, history & incredible cuisine this really is the ideal place for a dream Destination Wedding!
